Do French Bulldogs Shed

The French bulldogs shed minimally, the main reason being their single coat. They shed the most twice a year, in summer and winter. They shed off their thick winter coat during the hotter months, acquiring a lighter one that keeps them comfortable and prevents overheating. On the other hand, the thicker coat replaces the lighter summer coat in winter, keeping the dogs warm during the colder months.

Though low-shedders, yet the amount of hair each Frenchie may shed depends on several factors like gender, age, genetics, and diet.

Brushing them weekly using a brush with soft bristles, alongside a rubber hound glove, would help maintain a healthy and shiny coat. Also, bathe them when the coat gets dirty using a vet-approved shampoo.

If your Frenchie is shedding excessively, also showing symptoms like skin irritation and sudden thinning of coat, take it to a veterinarian right away.

Q. Do French bulldogs shed like pugs?

No, the pugs shed more than the Frenchies as they have a double coat, while the latter has a single coat.

Q. Are French bulldogs hypoallergenic?

No, though they shed less than the pug, their other brachycephalic counterpart, yet the Frenchies do not seem a good option for those allergic to dog hairs.

Q. Do mini French bulldogs shed?

Like the standard Frenchie, the mini varieties also don’t shed too much.
